A chef’s recognisable uniform differs from a café’s ordinary black-shirt dress code. Keep knife and equipment receipts, and separate courses for your existing duties from training to enter a new job.
Start with protective boots, safety equipment and tools you bought yourself. For tools used privately too, record the work share. Travel between job sites is different from getting to your usual site.
Check travel between clients, work calls and training tied to your current care duties. Keep a journey record distinguishing client visits from private driving and your ordinary commute.
Protective gear must address the hazards of the work you actually do. Record your own work equipment and eligible travel between workplaces, including any private use.
Cleaning supplies you buy for your job and protective gloves can be relevant. Keep receipts, and distinguish travel between cleaning sites from your first and last commute.
Review professional registration renewals, nursing memberships, eligible uniforms and current-role professional development. Work across multiple facilities needs a separate travel record.
Classroom resources and teaching equipment you fund yourself may qualify. An excursion expense needs a genuine employment connection; separate personal holiday costs.
Employee drivers should separate work journeys from the commute. Overnight work travel can have different meal rules from an ordinary day shift. Delivery contractors need business calculations, not just employee deductions.
A required, distinctive branded uniform may qualify. Work calls and training must relate to your actual duties, with personal use removed.
Choose a working-from-home method before totalling internet, phone and equipment costs, so the same expense is not counted twice. A computer’s private use must be excluded.
Protection must match an actual work risk. Distinguish equipment used to run tours from personal recreation, and relevant skills refreshers from training for a new occupation.
Check protective footwear, qualifying work clothing and your own equipment. Keep a record showing why the item was needed for your duties.
