Property maintenance assistant jobs in Australia

Maintenance assistants help with routine upkeep, moving equipment and preparing areas for repairs. At a resort, facility or residential property, you may also need to work neatly around guests or residents. Find out what “maintenance” means in that particular advert.

This could suit you if…

You like varied practical upkeep and working across properties rather than staying at one desk.

The trade-offs

Travel between sites and outdoor conditions affect the routine. Chemical, electrical and specialist repair tasks need appropriate training or licensed staff.

What does the work involve?

Routine work can include tidying grounds, moving furniture, preparing rooms for repairs and recording faults for qualified contractors.

A resort maintenance role may include guest interaction, while a facilities contractor may send you between several sites. Pool duties need separate clarification.

Will it fit my trip?

Ask who sets priorities when guests and supervisors request different jobs. A clear reporting process helps you avoid abandoning an unfinished repair or missing a hazard.

For pools, establish whether the job includes chemical dosing, water testing or simply surrounding-area upkeep. Do not buy pool training until an employer has explained the actual responsibilities and supervision.

What do I need before applying?

General maintenance support can include cleaning, upkeep and assisting qualified tradespeople. Electrical, plumbing and other regulated tasks remain work for appropriately qualified people.

Construction induction, chemical-handling instruction and equipment training depend on the work being done. A general handyperson title does not qualify you for every repair.

Which training is worth doing?

Site handling and equipment induction

Workplace induction covers lifting aids, safe handling, equipment and the work sequence on that site. A general manual-handling course does not teach you how to operate each workplace’s equipment.

How much does it pay?

BaptistCare’s Macquarie Park maintenance-officer advert publishes $26.51–$29.94 an hour plus 12% super. Work includes general upkeep, gardening, inspections and planned and reactive maintenance.

Role / shiftHourly pay
BaptistCare property maintenance — permanent$26.51–$29.94 + super

Employer salary example checked 17 October 2026. The listing is marked permanent full-time and also describes part-time opportunities. Previous property or maintenance experience is requested.

These permanent wages are not casual rates. This is a property-maintenance example, not a pool-technician or licensed trade wage; short working-holiday availability may not suit the permanent role.
