Demolition & strip-out labourer jobs in Australia

Strip-outs can involve removing fittings and clearing materials from offices, shops or renovation sites under direction. That is different from being qualified to demolish a structure. Dust, noise, hidden services and unknown materials make the briefing especially important.

You enjoy physical work with a visible result and can follow careful site instructions.

The trade-offs

Dust, debris and repetitive handling make this demanding. Hazardous materials and specialist demolition tasks require separate controls and competence.

What does the work involve?

A supervised strip-out can involve removing loose fittings, sorting salvage and carrying cleared material to the correct waste area.

The crew must know what is being removed and what remains supported or connected. Follow the planned sequence rather than treating everything in an empty room as rubbish.

Will it fit my trip?

Before the first shift, clarify respiratory protection, fitting arrangements and how the site controls airborne dust. Ordinary cleaning experience is not equivalent to demolition training.

Check how waste is separated and who identifies material that needs special handling. The pace of a strip-out should never replace a clear instruction about what is safe to remove.

What do I need before applying?

Construction induction is required for construction duties. The employer must explain dust controls, isolated services and any hazardous materials.

Asbestos awareness is different from asbestos-removal training and licensing. Stop and ask the supervisor when an unexpected material or hidden service is exposed.

Which training is worth doing?

For construction duties, use your state regulator’s approved training route. The NSW page explains its process; other jurisdictions have their own delivery rules.

Asbestos awareness

SafeWork NSW links to an awareness course and explains why licensed removal requires further training. Use it to understand the boundary between awareness and removal.

How do I put together a good application?

Apply for demolition labourer or strip-out assistant only after reading the duties. Describe the removal, sorting or tool tasks you have genuinely performed.

Ask whether the position is a supervised clean-up role, power-tool work or specialist demolition. Do not travel on the strength of an ambiguous title.

CW/ECW 1(d) — classification base$28.05
