WORKING BACKPACKERS

About Working Backpackers

I’m David. I run Working Backpackers, a site for people working and travelling around Australia.

About nine years ago, I started my first working holiday in Sydney with labouring jobs, then worked on the rail and in traffic control. Later I moved to Mareeba for banana and avocado farm work. Living in a share house with people from around the world was the best part of my time working in Australia. More recently, I returned on a third working-holiday visa using my UK passport.

Those farm experiences are from my first trip, not a report on conditions at those farms today. The people, jobs and arrangements may have changed.

Practical help for your next move

The site brings together job guides, employer recruitment links, seasonal farm searches, accommodation information and travel-planning tools. My own experience informs the advice; published requirements and location rules are checked against the sources linked in each guide.

How to use our guides

Recruitment links are starting points, not promises of vacancies. Research dates and material restrictions appear alongside the relevant information. Check current arrangements with the employer or provider before paying or travelling. Visa and tax tools provide general information, not a decision on your individual circumstances.

Some booking links may earn us a commission. Check the provider’s own price and terms before booking.

Sources, dates and corrections

For visa eligibility and employment rules, use the official sources linked in the guide. Employer recruitment pages and provider websites supply information about jobs, courses and bookings. A checked date records when that information was reviewed; it does not guarantee it is still available.

We distinguish live adverts, recruitment pages, expressions of interest and closed examples. A seasonal calendar describes typical crop timing, not a confirmed vacancy. Our directories cover selected researched options and are not complete lists of every employer or provider.

Firsthand stories describe David’s own experience. They should not be read as current pay evidence or universal advice about an employer. Published pay comparisons should identify their date, employment type and whether figures include loading, penalties or super.

If you spot an error, send the page URL, the detail that looks wrong and a supporting source if you have one. We can check the evidence and correct or remove outdated information. Report a correction.
