Warehouse picker / packer jobs in Australia

Pick orders, scan stock and prepare parcels or pallets for dispatch. Some warehouses train beginners; early starts, manual handling and reaching an industrial estate can matter more than a certificate.

This could suit you if…

You like a clear routine and accurate, practical tasks, with some employers training beginners.

The trade-offs

Pace, manual handling and repetitive work can be tiring. Industrial-estate transport and gaps between assignments can affect whether it fits your budget.

What does the work involve?

Pickers locate the correct stock, check quantities, scan items and prepare orders. Packers protect the goods, label cartons and keep dispatch organised.

Accuracy matters alongside pace: similar packaging, missing stock and damaged goods need to be reported through the site’s process.

Will this fit a few months in one city?

Temporary picking, packing and dispatch assignments are worth comparing if you can reach the industrial estate reliably. An agency registration is the start of the process, not a booked shift. Give precise availability and keep enough money for gaps between assignments.

Can I use public transport?

Check the warehouse address and shift start, including early mornings and nights. A bus that reaches the suburb during the day may not serve the industrial estate at the required time. Picking work and forklift operation are separate roles with different entry requirements.

What do I need before applying?

Many general picking roles are separate from licensed forklift jobs. Read whether order picking means walking with a scanner or operating an order-picking forklift.

Ask about training for scanners, pallet equipment and repetitive handling. Cold stores, food warehouses and production facilities can have different clothing and hygiene requirements.

Which training is worth doing?

Site handling and equipment induction

Workplace induction covers lifting aids, safe handling, equipment and the work sequence on that site. A general manual-handling course does not teach you how to operate each workplace’s equipment.

Forklift versus general picking

Use the regulator’s licence guidance if the advert mentions LF or LO. Do not pay for forklift training for a manual picking role unless it serves a clear next step.
