Stadium usher jobs in Australia

Help spectators find seats, check tickets and keep entrances moving. A practical customer-service option around matches and concerts, with most shifts tied to the venue’s event calendar.

This could suit you if…

You enjoy helping people find their way and staying calm in a busy crowd.

The trade-offs

Shifts follow the event calendar, often evenings and weekends. You are working during the match, and ushering is different from licensed security work.

What does the work involve?

Ushers help spectators find entrances, seats and facilities, check tickets where assigned and pass questions to the right person.

You may repeat directions for hours and work through a concentrated arrival rush. Patience with first-time visitors and clear communication make a real difference.

How regular is the work?

Work follows fixtures and events, so a busy match week does not establish a steady weekly roster. This can suit someone combining evening or weekend shifts with another job, provided the schedules do not clash. Compare the venue calendar with the dates you will be in the city.

Can I get home after an event?

The reporting point may be a staff gate far from the public entrance. Include time to reach it before the shift and to leave through post-event crowds. Late finishes make the last train or bus important when choosing venues.

What do I need before applying?

Expect venue induction covering emergency routes, accessibility and incident reporting. Customer-service work is useful preparation.

Ushering and licensed security are different jobs. Confirm whether any advert includes crowd-control or security duties and what licence that requires in the state.

Which training is worth doing?

Venue induction and emergency procedures

Venue induction covers entrances and exits, seating plans, accessibility, evacuation routes and how to contact security or first aid. This is specific to the venue; an outside customer-service course cannot replace it.

How much does it pay?

Venue employment can sit under different awards. For a role covered by the Amusement, Events and Recreation Award, these are adult ordinary casual minimums by classification.

Role / shiftHourly pay
Introductory level$32.18
Grade 1$33.05
Grade 2$33.85

Adult award minimums effective from 1 July 2026, before tax and excluding super. Casual loading is already included. These rates apply where this award covers the job; an enterprise agreement may apply instead.

Grade 2 includes ticket-selling and some customer-facing event duties. A stadium usher title alone does not establish the classification. Short calls and irregular fixtures also affect weekly earnings.
