Mine-site stores / warehouse worker jobs in Australia

Mine-site stores workers receive, organise and issue the parts and supplies that keep operations moving. Warehouse experience and accurate stock records are useful foundations, with additional site procedures and any forklift duties shaped by the particular vacancy.

You like accurate stock control and practical warehouse work supporting a larger operation.

The trade-offs

Inventory errors can delay maintenance, and loads or materials may need specialist handling. FIFO travel starts from an agreed base, not wherever you happen to be.

What does the work involve?

Stores teams receive deliveries, check quantities, locate stock and issue parts or consumables. Accuracy matters because a wrongly recorded item can delay maintenance; expect inventory systems and documented handovers.

The job can combine desk-based entries with manual handling, freight loading and movement around mobile equipment. Ask whether you handle dangerous goods, oversized parts or food supplies.

Will it fit my trip?

Mine stores jobs can be local, drive-in or FIFO. FIFO travel starts from a nominated base, so getting yourself to that base is a separate part of planning. An ordinary warehouse job does not automatically include flights or camp accommodation.

What do I need before applying?

Warehouse experience, computer confidence and stock accuracy transfer well. Forklift duties require the appropriate licence and workplace authorisation; employers may still want recent practical experience beyond the licence.

Which training is worth doing?

Forklift high-risk work licence

Australian forklift work uses the relevant high-risk work licence class. A foreign forklift qualification is not automatically an Australian licence; local training, assessment and the regulator application are separate steps.

Optional forklift pathway — Access Training Centre, South Australia

Beginner LF training and assessment takes three days, advertised from $770 (17 October 2026). Regional prices differ and the SafeWork SA licence fee is additional. This applies to forklift duties, not every role in this job category.

How do I put together a good application?

List stock systems used, receiving and dispatch work, forklift licence class and relevant experience. Explain examples of resolving discrepancies or keeping urgent parts traceable.

FIFO applications need your departure location, roster availability and current licences. Use the advertised recruitment process for medicals and site induction; those stages come after the employer assesses your application.

How much does it pay?

Where the Mining Industry Award covers the work, the classification determines the minimum. These ordinary adult casual day rates include the industry allowance.

Role / shiftHourly pay
Entry level — induction$34.41
Level 1 — basic$35.81
Level 2 — intermediate$37.09
Level 3 — competent$38.18

Adult award rates effective from 1 July 2026, before tax and excluding super. Casual loading is included. These are classification minimums, not advertised FIFO salary ranges. Additional all-purpose allowances may apply. Contractor workshop, warehouse or hospitality staff may have different award coverage.

Experienced staff do not automatically belong at entry level. Skills, duties and responsibility determine the appropriate level; roster penalties and overtime are additional to the ordinary day rate.
