Marquee / event installation crew jobs in Australia

Work with a crew to build and dismantle marquees and temporary event structures. Expect outdoor physical work, early depot starts and busy periods before and after events.

You like outdoor team projects and building the spaces used for events.

The trade-offs

Handling bulky equipment, weather and pack-down deadlines can be demanding. Locations change and work may start before public transport runs.

What does the work involve?

Installation crews transport and organise components, help assemble temporary event spaces under direction, move furniture and dismantle after the booking.

The role can involve outdoor work at an empty venue days before guests arrive. Wet ground, changing weather and tight delivery schedules affect the day.

Will it fit my trip?

Find out whether you start at a warehouse or meet on site. Regional events may involve overnight stays; agree the accommodation and meal arrangements beforehand.

Check who supplies protective clothing and tools. Keep the site manager involved when ground conditions or weather change; a tight deadline is not a reason to improvise structural work.

What do I need before applying?

General setup, construction work and licensed equipment operation have different requirements. The duties determine whether construction induction or an equipment licence is needed.

Installation crews need instruction in the system they assemble. Supporting, anchoring or modifying a structure is not a decision for an untrained beginner.

Which training is worth doing?

Construction induction / White Card

For construction duties, use your state regulator’s approved training route. The NSW page explains its process; other jurisdictions have their own delivery rules.

Site handling and equipment induction

Workplace induction covers lifting aids, safe handling, equipment and the work sequence on that site. A general manual-handling course does not teach you how to operate each workplace’s equipment.

How do I put together a good application?

Search event installation labourer, marquee crew and event setup. State your outdoor labouring, loading and practical teamwork experience.

Ask whether the company will train general crew on its systems or expects experienced installers. Give your transport and availability for the full setup and dismantling period.

How much does it pay?

The Amusement, Events and Recreation Award includes an assistant to an erector or construction technician in Grade 2. For covered non-exhibition employees, these adult casual rates are a useful reference.

Role / shiftHourly pay
Grade 2 ordinary$33.85
Grade 2 Sunday$47.39

Rates effective 1 July 2026, before tax and excluding super; casual loading included. Exhibition employees have a separate schedule, and construction-covered work can use another award.

This is an assistant classification. A licensed rigger, scaffolder, driver or crew leader should not be compared with the same starting role.
