Festival bar crew jobs in Australia

Serve drinks at festivals and temporary event bars. Useful if you have hospitality experience and the local RSA; most opportunities are shifts around an event, rather than a steady weekly job.

This could suit you if…

You enjoy fast-paced bar service and want work around specific festival dates.

The trade-offs

Crowds, long service periods and late transport need planning. A festival booking is short-term work, not a season of guaranteed shifts.

What does the work involve?

Festival bars work in bursts around performances. Duties may include serving a short drinks menu, checking identification, taking payments, replenishing supplies and keeping the service area usable.

Good communication matters in noise and crowds. Follow the bar manager’s procedure for service concerns, stock shortages and customers who need assistance.

Can I work a festival and enjoy the event?

A staff shift is a work commitment: you may be busiest while the acts you want to see are playing. Event recruitment also needs reliable arrival and departure plans, particularly where the site is outside town.

Does festival work cover accommodation?

A staff camping place, a paid bed and transport are separate arrangements. Only include them in your budget when the organiser offers them. A short event can add income, but it is not a substitute for a continuing roster if you need steady rent money.

What do I need before applying?

You need RSA evidence accepted where the event operates. NSW has its own approved-provider and competency-card process; check the relevant jurisdiction before booking a course.

Bar experience can be required even when the menu is simple. Cashier, stock runner and bartender are different roles, so read the booking carefully.

Which training is worth doing?

RSA for the event’s jurisdiction

Use the NSW regulator’s course guidance and approved-provider search for NSW events. Check the local regulator when the event is elsewhere.

Search festival bartender, event bar staff or casual bar attendant. Include your RSA jurisdiction, expiry details where applicable and recent service experience.

Give the dates you can commit to, including mandatory briefings. Mention payment systems, high-volume service and examples of remaining calm when several customers need help.

How much does it pay?

Role / shiftHourly pay
Level 2 weekday ordinary$33.85
Level 2 Saturday$40.62
Level 2 Sunday$47.39
Level 3 weekday ordinary$34.96

Award rates effective 1 July 2026, before tax and excluding super, with casual loading included. These are Hospitality Award rates: a festival’s catering contractor, restaurant or venue may use another award or agreement.
