Aquaculture / oyster farm worker jobs in Australia

Handle shellfish or fish stock, grade produce and maintain farm equipment. Shore-based processing and on-water farm jobs have different skills and conditions.

This could suit you if…

You enjoy practical work around marine farming and can match your skills to shore-based or on-water duties.

The trade-offs

Wet conditions, tides, weather and lifting affect the routine. Vessel work can have different requirements from grading or processing on shore.

What does the work involve?

Oyster farm work can involve grading stock, handling baskets or trays, preparing orders and cleaning or maintaining equipment. Marine farm attendants may instead support fish husbandry and on-water infrastructure.

Weather, tides and boat movements affect the day. Ask whether the role works from shore or vessels and which wet-weather clothing, flotation equipment and lifting aids are supplied.

Will it fit my trip?

Check early-shift transport, weather cancellations, housing and whether a fixed roster is offered. Match actual duties and location to your own visa subclass; the word farm alone does not establish specified-work eligibility.

What do I need before applying?

Do I need a marine qualification?

Not for every processing or farm-hand role. Oyster grading, stock handling and cleaning can be taught on site. Operating a commercial vessel is a separate job with marine requirements.

What conditions should I expect?

Wet equipment, repetitive handling and outdoor work are normal. A role based on the water can involve changing weather and tides; a shore-based processing role has a different routine.

Training for this role

Farm induction covers handling stock, grading, equipment and working safely around water. Boat operation and machinery duties have additional requirements; an oyster-processing role is different from skippering a workboat.
