Which agencies should I apply to?
Search these agencies for pick packer, warehouse assistant, parcel sorter or process worker in your area. The agency may employ you and place you at a client’s warehouse.
- Randstad — warehouse roles
Recruitment agency. Its warehouse page describes beginner opportunities and onboarding training. Check each role’s location and work-rights requirements.
- LEAP — register for warehouse work
Sydney labour-hire agency recruiting for pick/pack and warehouse assignments. Its jobs page explicitly welcomes eligible backpackers.
- Labourpower — search warehouse vacancies
Recruitment agency with logistics and manufacturing roles. Filter by location; experience and working-holiday acceptance vary by assignment.
Do I need a forklift licence?
Not for every warehouse job. Start with roles that do not involve operating a forklift. Before paying for training, ask recruiters whether their available assignments need a licence, operating experience or both.
SafeWork NSW distinguishes LF forklift-truck licences from LO order-picking licences. Manual pallet trucks require site-specific training rather than a high-risk work licence. Check the equipment and your state’s regulator before booking a course.
Can I get there for the shift?
Get the worksite address and start and finish times. Check the journey both ways, including early starts and weekends. If the last bus leaves before your shift ends, ask about another shift or site before accepting.
What should I put in my application?
Put your suburb, start date, available shifts, work rights and planned length of stay near the top of your CV. Mention relevant tasks you have actually done: checking deliveries, packing orders, following safety instructions or working on your feet.
Example message to adapt: “I’m based in [suburb], available from [date] for [shifts], and can stay until [date]. I’m looking for beginner pick/pack work. I have experience in [relevant task]. Do you have assignments that suit my availability and work rights?”
- Build your backpacker CV
A simple structure with example wording to adapt to your own experience.
How much do beginner warehouse jobs pay?
These Randstad assignments advertise training for beginners. The night-shift starting rate is $8.21/hour higher. WHV acceptance depends on the assignment; check the work-rights questions when applying.
| Assignment | Advertised starting rate | Availability |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon Horsley Park, NSW · day shift | $34.19/hour | Four days available each week, including one weekend day |
| Amazon Kemps Creek, NSW · night shift | $42.40/hour | Four days available each week, including one weekend day |
- Horsley Park day-shift advert
Posted 13 October 2026. Casual assignment; no warehouse experience required.
- Kemps Creek night-shift advert
Posted 30 September 2026. Night work pays more, but needs a workable journey home.
- Calculate your take-home pay
Enter your hourly wage and hours to compare tax and super separately.
What would that mean for a working week?
At the advertised day rate, 30 paid hours would be $1,025.70 before tax. At the night rate, the same hours would be $1,272. These are calculations, not promised rosters. Use the casual rate as advertised; do not add casual loading again. The adverts do not clearly separate super in the quoted figures.
Search by the warehouse suburb rather than the city centre. A higher rate can be a poor fit if getting home requires a taxi after every shift.
