AUSTRALIA · JOB GUIDE
Roadhouse all-rounders move between customer service, the shop, food preparation and cleaning as the shift demands. It can suit someone with varied hospitality or retail skills who is comfortable with a small team and has checked the practicalities of living far from town.

You like a small team and varied duties across shop service, food, cleaning and customer support.
Remote travel and housing can be costly, and some shifts involve late or overnight work. Confirm which tasks and living arrangements the offer actually includes.
A roadhouse can combine fuel and shop service, till operation, food preparation, dishwashing and cleaning. Ask which duties dominate: a café shift and an overnight fuel-console shift have different demands.
A small team may move between tasks throughout the day. Learn cash procedures, food-safety rules and how to call a supervisor when a customer problem or equipment fault arises.
Remote does not necessarily mean live-in. Confirm room type, meals, mobile coverage, transport from the nearest town and who pays if your start is delayed. Ask about late-shift security and the process for leaving the property on days off.
Retail, cafés, cleaning and food service all transfer well. All-rounders may switch between the register, coffee machine, shelves and guest rooms during the same shift.
RSA is relevant when serving alcohol; food-handling training applies to food duties. A driving licence is role-specific, especially for grounds or vehicle duties.
Remote employers often need several months rather than a few weeks. Live-in roles reduce commuting, while arrival transport depends on the venue’s location.
Food-handler learning covers hygiene, contamination, temperature control and safe storage. A food-safety-supervisor certificate is a separate responsibility; it is not the standard starting qualification for every kitchen assistant.
Free, non-accredited Victorian Government online learning covering hygiene, safe storage, contamination, allergens and cleaning. Useful preparation for food-handling duties; it is not a Food Safety Supervisor qualification.

Clear to Work lists online WA and NT RSA courses at $24.50 each. The WA course requires photo ID, a USI and written and video assessments; optional express marking costs extra. Select the course for the state or territory where you will serve alcohol.

Regional parks and resorts
Search hospitality, housekeeping and park operations across Discovery properties. These are broader all-rounder alternatives to roadhouses; accommodation and seasonal contracts are property-specific.
Put your start date, available months, current location and work rights near the top of your CV. Add relevant hands-on tasks, any licences and whether you need accommodation; this lets the recruiter match you to a workable placement.
Use a current vacancy’s application form when one is listed. Use an expression-of-interest form when no suitable vacancy is listed.
MLKA’s October 2026 Pilbara advert offers $36.85/hour casual on a flat Monday–Sunday enterprise-agreement rate, with accommodation and meals at $140/week. It requires a minimum four-month stay. This is one advertised package, not a general remote-work minimum.
Hospitality Award adult casual rates from 1 July 2026, including casual loading and excluding super. These are ordinary daytime rates for employees aged 21+, not the flat enterprise-agreement package above.
