Help run a remote tourism lodge or camp, from preparing guest rooms to supporting meals and supplies. Small teams often share duties, so ask exactly what the position covers and what living on site is like.
You like a small team, practical guest support and a base away from busy cities.
The trade-offs
Isolation and shared accommodation can be a big adjustment. Check days off, communication and the journey out before committing.
What does the work involve?
Prepare rooms or tents, maintain shared areas, assist with linen and keep supplies organised. Coordinate cleaning with arrivals, departures and tours so guests and operational teams have what they need.
Depending on the position, help serve meals, clean the kitchen or prepare common areas. Record shortages and faults early because replacement stock or specialist help may take longer to arrive.
Will it fit my trip?
Ask about room sharing, drinking water, laundry, internet, food choices and access to health services before accepting. Plan how you will manage prescriptions or other essential supplies through the roster.
Confirm the departure point, baggage limits, employer transport and the cost and notice involved in leaving early. Keep an independent reserve for onward travel.
Check who provides emergency training and how staff communicate when mobile reception fails. Know the boundaries of your role around wildlife, water, vehicles and equipment.
If counting days for a visa matters, verify the actual industry, duties and location through the shared specified-work guide before committing. Keep the employment evidence the relevant rules require.
Hospitality experience is useful for cleaning, food service and guest contact. Driving, alcohol service and first-aid responsibilities add their own requirements when included in the job.
Seasonal lodge roles can require a commitment covering much of the operating season. Remote living and travel to the property are part of the decision, alongside the actual work.
Which training is worth doing?
First aid and CPR
St John offers HLTAID011 general first aid and HLTAID009 CPR through its state organisations. These include practical assessment; course delivery and fees appear in the local booking calendar.
Free Victorian Government online learning covering food handling, personal hygiene, contamination, allergens, storage and cleaning. It is non-accredited and does not replace a Food Safety Supervisor qualification.
HLTAID011 Provide First Aid: $199 for 4.75 hours in class plus pre-learning, or $225 for 7.75 hours in class without pre-learning. These are Victorian options; choose a listed venue and date. First aid is relevant when the role requires it, rather than a universal entry qualification.

Journey Beyond — Touring & Lodges
The official careers hub links to brand vacancies and a central application portal. Look for camp attendant or lodge hospitality duties and verify the season and arrival arrangements.
The careers network includes properties such as Freycinet Lodge and Pumphouse Point. Search the named lodge and department; a lodge vacancy is not automatically a camp-all-rounder role.

Beckons — luxury lodges
Lodge hospitality recruitment including Southern Ocean Lodge and Longitude 131°. Applications are online through the careers page; filter by property and department.
Use examples of working in small teams, keeping standards without constant supervision and adjusting when plans change. Hospitality, housekeeping and practical stock experience can all be relevant.
Name the property or brand and role, then state your availability and transport situation. Ask whether interviews, references or assessments must be completed before you travel to the departure point.
For lodge hospitality covered by the Hospitality Award, the rate follows your duties: basic support, room service, reception and trained guest service can fall at different levels.

These full rates apply from age 20 under the Hospitality Award. Younger employees serving liquor receive the adult rate for their classification.
