Mine-site camp cleaner & kitchen assistant jobs in Australia
Help keep a mining camp running by cleaning rooms, doing laundry and helping in the kitchen or dining room. Employers often call this a “utility” or “camp all-rounder” job; the duties depend on the position.

The trade-offs
Repeated long shifts, cleaning and service routines can be demanding. Camp support is not mine-equipment work, and department allocation matters.
What does the work involve?
Utilities keep the accommodation village functioning, rotating between cleaning, dining service, laundry, retail or other assigned support. They serve workers staying at the camp rather than operating mine-production equipment.
A swing can contain repeated long shifts. Ask for the actual department rotation, break pattern and day/night allocation so you understand what a normal week looks like.
Is it a good short-term FIFO option?
It is a route to investigate if you already have cleaning or hospitality experience and can commit to rostered swings. A beginner-friendly advert still has its own visa, screening and availability conditions. Budget for accommodation between swings unless the offer specifically includes it.
What do I need before applying?
Some employers offer entry roles; others want commercial hospitality experience. Medical, drug-and-alcohol screening and site induction requirements are employer-specific. A White Card is not automatically necessary for every village hospitality job.
Which training is worth doing?
Food-handler skills
Food-handler learning covers hygiene, contamination, temperature control and safe storage. A food-safety-supervisor certificate is a separate responsibility; it is not the standard starting qualification for every kitchen assistant.
Free preparation — DoFoodSafely
Free, non-accredited Victorian Government online learning covering hygiene, safe storage, contamination, allergens and cleaning. Useful preparation for food-handling duties; it is not a Food Safety Supervisor qualification.

How do I put together a good application?
Emphasise dependable shift work, commercial cleaning or food-service experience and safety habits. State your current location and ability to reach the named departure airport; ask whether your visa duration fits the contract.
FIFO applications need your departure location, roster availability and current licences. Use the advertised recruitment process for medicals and site induction; those stages come after the employer assesses your application.
ESS camp-support salary and roster
ESS’s Perth expression of interest lists a $91,519 base salary plus 12% super and allowances. The full-time intake includes kitchen hands, housekeepers, mine-site cleaners and all-rounders; it does not publish separate salaries for each department.
The roster is 14 days on / 7 off with 11–12-hour shifts. Flights from Perth, on-site meals, accommodation and uniforms are included. The intake requires Perth-based applicants, a full Australian driving licence, full working rights and a police clearance issued within six months. Working-holiday eligibility is not explicitly confirmed.
