Island resort staff jobs in Australia

Island resort work is a location choice covering many different occupations. Apply for the department you can contribute to—housekeeping, reception, food service, kitchen support or another advertised role. An island setting can make accommodation and transport more important than the job title when deciding whether an offer works.

This could suit you if…

You want to live and work around a resort community and can commit to its season or roster.

The trade-offs

Getting to the mainland and leaving between shifts may be limited. Housing, meals and transport charges affect what you can save.

What does the work involve?

Your daily tasks follow the department: cleaning and room checks, guest arrivals, restaurant service or kitchen support. Read the duties in full and ask whether you will move between outlets.

Coordinate around guest arrivals, deliveries and resort activity. Finishing service may include cleanup or preparation for the next day, while transfers and weather can affect how supplies and people move.

Will it fit my trip?

Get the housing address, room-sharing arrangement, facilities and move-out notice in writing. Check access to groceries, laundry, phone coverage and services you depend on.

Ask whether the first and last transfers are arranged, which arrival airport or port to use and who meets you. Build a weather contingency into travel plans.

Living and working with the same group can be enjoyable and intense. Understand quiet hours, visitor rules and how to raise workplace or accommodation concerns privately.

What do I need before applying?

The job’s requirements come first. Alcohol-service training, food hygiene, qualifications or previous luxury-service experience depend on the advertised position. Do not buy a bundle of courses simply because the workplace is a resort.

Seasonal recruitment and experienced year-round roles suit different lengths of stay. Housekeeping, kitchen and reception departments also require different experience, even at the same resort.

Which training is worth doing?

DoFoodSafely

Free Victorian Government online learning covering food handling, personal hygiene, contamination, allergens, storage and cleaning. It is non-accredited and does not replace a Food Safety Supervisor qualification.

How do I put together a good application?

Choose a vacancy that matches your experience and address its criteria directly. Give a clear start date, realistic end date and whether you require staff accommodation.

Ask how the recruitment and arrival process works before booking non-refundable travel. A successful interview and an allocated room or transfer are separate things unless the employer confirms both.

What can you earn?

A resort location does not create a single pay rate. Under the Hospitality Award, entry kitchen support, room cleaning, reception and trained service work sit at different levels.

ClassificationCasual weekdaySaturdaySunday
Level 1$33.05$39.66$46.27
Level 2$33.85$40.62$47.39
Level 3$34.96$41.96$48.95

These figures apply to adults in the named Hospitality Award classifications, not every job with this title. A registered enterprise agreement or a different industry award can apply. The classification follows the actual duties.

Rates are per hour before tax and exclude super. Casual loading is already included. These are ordinary-hours minimums from 1 July 2026; overtime, public holidays and late-night additions are separate.

These full rates apply from age 20 under the Hospitality Award. Younger employees serving liquor receive the adult rate for their classification.
