Au pair / nanny
Care for children in a family setting under an agreed schedule and duties.
AUSTRALIA · JOB GUIDE
This is not a single quick-entry category. Nannying, disability support, aged care and qualified early childhood work require different experience, checks and supervision.

You want people-focused work and can offer patience, reliability and continuity to children or adults needing support.
The responsibility goes beyond being friendly. Screening, qualifications and personal-care duties differ between roles, and short stays may not suit every employer.
01 / UNDERSTAND THE JOB
Care for children in a family setting under an agreed schedule and duties.
Assist a person with the activities and goals in their support plan.
Support older people with daily activities within the assigned role.
Provide education and care in a regulated service at the qualification level you hold.
Treat these as continuity-of-care roles. Short travel availability may not suit an employer or family. Confirm before paying for checks or a course.
02 / CHECK YOUR STARTING POINT
Check NSW child-related screening for relevant duties. NDIS screening applies to relevant roles, not automatically every job. Early childhood qualification recognition is separate from an au pair arrangement.
Accurate handovers, understanding care plans and recording concerns matter. Be honest about your communication confidence and ask about support and supervision.
03 / CLOSE A SKILL GAP
Choose the credential the job needs. An optional skills course is different from a required qualification.
Dates and fees are listed through the provider’s booking route.
Individual Support qualifications offer ageing and disability pathways, with practical placement. Duration and fees depend on the campus and intake; subsidised prices have residency and other eligibility conditions.

Australian early-learning centres
Direct educator recruitment with qualification-based pathways and centre vacancies. Includes casual roles; trainee and qualified educator routes are distinct.
Residential and home-care services
Care-worker recruitment includes personal-care vacancies, traineeships and supported entry pathways. Select residential or home care to match the work you want.
05 / MAKE A USEFUL APPLICATION
Use genuine care experience, references and verified qualifications. Describe boundaries, reliability and safeguarding awareness without sharing former clients’ personal details.
Include availability, location, work rights and current credentials.
Ask which checks and qualifications apply, what training is paid, the level of supervision, travel between clients and expected commitment.
