Brand ambassador / promotional staff jobs in Australia

Represent brands at product launches, sampling stands and events. Suits confident communicators looking for campaign-based shifts; it is different from a permanent retail sales role.

You are comfortable starting conversations and explaining products to strangers.

The trade-offs

Campaigns can be brief. Sampling and event hosting differ from target-driven sales, so check whether earnings include commission.

What does the work involve?

You represent a campaign at an event, shopping centre or public location. Work may include greeting people, explaining a product, handing out samples and recording agreed campaign results.

Some bookings are brand awareness; others involve sales targets or collecting customer details. Find out which before accepting.

What sort of promotion is it?

Sampling, product demonstrations and event activations differ from face-to-face sales. Read the duties and pay section together: a sales target or commission arrangement changes the job substantially. Good examples of speaking clearly with strangers are more useful than a generic claim to be outgoing.

How dependable are the hours?

Bookings follow campaigns and events. Being accepted onto an agency list does not establish a weekly income, and assignments may be at different shopping centres or venues. Match the call times and transport costs to the fee for each booking.

Can I get promotional work without a qualification?

Retail, hospitality and customer-service experience are useful entry routes. The core skill is starting conversations with strangers, explaining a product clearly and following a campaign brief. No marketing degree is generally required.

Experience matters more than a certificate

LiveWorks lists one year of relevant experience. Use examples from shop-floor sales, bar work, reception or events to show you can deal with the public. Agency registration does not guarantee bookings.

Training depends on the campaign

Alcohol promotions may require the relevant state RSA. Food sampling can involve food-handling training. These are campaign-specific requirements, so a general promotional role does not justify buying every ticket.

Which training is worth doing?

Campaign briefing

Start with the employer’s product, privacy and customer-service briefing. For alcohol-related work, check the local RSA requirement before accepting.

How to apply

Search for brand ambassador, promotional staff, activation staff and event host. Put your current city, available dates and evening/weekend availability near the top of your CV.

Give one concrete customer-facing example: running tastings, explaining products, handling a busy queue or meeting a retail sales target. Include an RSA only if you hold one, with the state it covers.

Keep agency availability up to date as you travel. Some campaigns need staff to transport stock or work at several locations; include your transport situation so you receive suitable bookings.

How much does promotional work pay?

$34–$45 an hour, plus super

LiveWorks publishes this range for brand ambassadors and promotional staff. Its page lists one year of relevant experience; this is an employer example, not a guaranteed beginner rate.

At that range, a six-hour booking would earn $204–$270 before tax, plus super. Three six-hour bookings would earn $612–$810. These examples assume all 18 hours are paid; they are not a promised weekly roster.

Good for extra shifts; less predictable for rent

Campaigns can offer several busy days and then finish. Build your budget around confirmed bookings. A commission-only sales role is a different offer from these advertised hourly shifts.
